Challenge #1 ~ Sketch

Welcome everyone, we are so excited to announce our very first challenge here at Paperbabe Stamps...

For our first challenge we thought a friendly little sketch for you all to play along with would be an easier start...

So, you can interpret the sketch in any way you like, a card, a scrapbook or journal page or whatever takes your fancy ~ You can flip the sketch, turn it, the sketch is just a starting point, the flower can be any embellishment or die cut. If you want to rotate the sketch that's fine too - as long as we can see the basis of the sketch in the final projects anything goes!

Here's our DT inspiration to get you started:

Chris used the Folk Fabrique stamp set and the sentiment from High in the Sky.

Delphine used Dillon Frost Sprite, coloured with Copics and with an airbrushed background.

Just to recap the new release, "Folk Fabrique", "Doll Face", "Mayleedee Little Red", "Mayleedee Frost Fairy" and "Dillon Frost Sprite" are NOW in Etsy! and the WebShop

Prizes indeed! To celebrate there will be the ENTIRE AUGUST release and a very special not yet released (get it well before it's release in September) rubber stamp...  up for grabs to a very lucky winner!!!

Now for something quite special... I just had to get inky and messy and create a mixed media piece with my Doll Face Stamp Set...
I have taken photos during my process...

I drew the head and shoulders onto book pages, adhered to my base and went over with a generous splodge of white gesso..
I've added texture with palette knife, stencils and stamps.
When the gesso was dry I drew the hair, then went over the hair with matte black embossing paste...

The texture is fab as I wanted to disguise the layers created from the head cutout.

When the paste was dry, I went all over the hair with black acrylic paint, adding some messy curls and tendrils. I used my oriental zen stamp set to give my girl a tattoo.
I masked the outside of her shoulder and some of the images to get the tattoo look.

Next I stamped the underlayer of her face using the Doll Face Stamp Set.

I went for faint eyes, I used my usual memento luxe inkpads (seeing as they are for mixed media)

I actually got out my panpastels out thinking I could colour her so quickly but they just did not take on the gesso, the colour wouldn't show and they rubbed away with a finger swipe, so I ended up using some water-soluble wax art bars, which turned out pretty good as you can blend them or watercolour with them.

Another texture shot...
The finished piece, I painted the background with acrylic paints watered down to create a wash. Am I allowed to be super pleased? Although I could tweak this forever, definitely got the mixed media bug now. Anyway I hope you've thoroughly enjoyed the hop, I feel so very blessed to have these talented designers supporting me. Thank you!

If you're just arriving and haven't been round the hop then here's the hop list...

Introducing... New Character Clear Stamps

Welcome, I see lots of you enjoyed the Doll Face stamps yesterday,
today I'm introducing a few familiar faces but as Clear Stamps...

Mayleedee Little Red
Mayleedee Frost Fairy
Dillon Frost Sprite
The Details:
  • All three clear stamps will be available for purchase on 8th August.
  • They will retail for £6.00.
  • Each has the main character image with, an extra sentiment stamp included. They are approximately 4 1/2" - 5" tall x 3" (12.5cm x 7.5cm) so plenty big to colour, or trim for a smaller card topper.
Now onto a sample...

I opted for the lovely Mayleedee Frost Fairy,
These are the copics I used to colour her...
Skin: E11, 13, YR000, YR0000, R12 Lips: R29
Hair: RV34, R56, R59
Dress: BG09, 10, 53, 57
Wings: RV0000, C0
Background: E40, 41, 43, 44, 50 ,51 Ground: C1, C3
The patterned paper are from an old prima pack. The snowflakes and ornament are spellbinder dies. I coloured the bauble with copics to coordinate with her hair. The 'wish' sentiment is from the set.
I couldn't leave the card without a sprinkling of glitteriness, so I went over her dress, and wings with wink of stella and glitter gel pen for her eyes and snowflakes.

It's time to head over to...
the wonderful Delphine, as she wow's you with her wonderful card,
so please head over to her blog...

And just to remind everyone that we're having a little blog hop here tomorrow, so see you then

Introducing ~ Doll Face

I hope you enjoyed the Folk Fabrique recap yesterday..
today I'm introducing the well awaited
Doll Face Stamp Set

Now this new set was in fact a customer request from the lovely Dorothy, but I've added my own design elements and vision. It's called Doll Face, it includes all the parts to build up a doll face whether you're stamping on fabric, canvas or cardstock. Just imagine the fun you can have creating actual dolls, mixed media art, there are iris', pupils', open eyes, closed eyes and even freckles with 31 stamps to use you can be sure of creating a perfect face.

The Details:
  • Doll Face will be available for purchase on Fri 8th August.
  • The set will retail for £9.00
  • Doll Face contains a total of 31 images, there there are iris', pupils', open eyes, closed eyes, the white of the eye, lips, hearts and even freckles. The images are all separate for more stamping variations.
Now onto some samples...

Inspired by the amazing Art cloth dolls around, it just captures that inner girl, who loved her doll.

Dorothy ask me at the NEC show if I could make a doll face stamp set so here it is...
I had to create a video slideshow because there were way too many pictures to fill the post... I hope it shows how versatile and fun this stamp set is, you can stamp on anything...

I have a lot of work to do to get as good as those cloth doll artist's but I had to have a go, this is a rag doll as it's for a child so she's very floppy(no wire's etc)lol.
I used the stamps as demonstrated in the video. The hair... well I thought I would try my hand at needle felting, each piece of wool was shaped around a dowel, and each felted into her head. I even sewed her dress, top and under skirt.
She is still waiting for her angel wings, ninja suit and ugg boots, thought she would search through my drawers herself...
And because they are both so super adorable...

Stamped on a card...
I paired the Doll face with oriental zen and created a very soft feminine look, using distress inks and pencils. The sentiment is from Just Because.

And for mixed media...

Please check out the amazing journal page Chris created using the Doll Face stamp set...
I tell you as soon as I saw this I just wanted to get inky and messy straight away, it's so very inspiring!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you are pleasantly inspired, do pop back tomorrow to see some character stamps.
Have a wonderfully creative day

Folk Fabrique ~ Recap

Good Morning everyone,
Well, you've seen the sneak peeks and the introduction to Folk Fabrique so, I just thought I would pop by to show you another example...

I had the idea to try the set as more of a background, I stamped the images in perfect medium and applied perfect pearls.
I applied a few colours of powder to each image to create an ombre effect, it has a stunning sheen when tilted to the light.
The Fabulous Birthday is from Fabulous Everything set, I used just the flourish outline and birthday sentiment on acetate with white embossing powder. I trimmed around the words but left the left edge long so I could adhere it behind the card front. I used clear dimensional foam to make it stand proud of the background.
It's a little like a folk and nouveau fusion...

The updated Details:
  • Folk Fabrique will be available for purchase on Friday 8th Aug.
  • The set will retail for £14.00
  • Folk Fabrique contains a total of 49 images, there is a large fabric background image, two peacocks mirror image, each with patterned body and an array of different patterned feathers. There are flowers to build up with heads, stalks and leaves separate for more stamping variations.

And if you have a moment please stop by Lady who show's us just how versatile this stamp set is, with her wonderful tutorial!

We also have a blog hop on friday to show you some stunning projects from some of my crafty friends...

Pop back tomorrow for an introduction to the well awaited Doll Face...

Have a wonderfully creative day!
